New Faces?

Greenisland Ladies have begun pre-season training with their new support team in place.

As previously announced, Mark Webber has been appointed 1st team coach. Joining Mark is local man, John Cathcart, who takes on the role of team manager to the Senior 1 League team. John is responsible for the day to day running of the team and also match analysis. “This area of hockey is long neglected,” says Mark, “we need to recognise and consider mistakes made on the pitch and work on how to correct them. Match statistics are not just the fancy symbols you see on television, but a very handy tool to the modern coach.”

Another local man, Peter Browne, makes a welcome return to the Club this year in a slightly different role. Peter is the Club fitness coach and is tasked with the preparation of all teams for the coming season. After a very busy pre-season, Peter will continue to monitor the fitness of players throughout the season. He will be responsible, not only for general team work, but also working with injured players, bringing them back up to the fitness standards required at the Club.

The support team are committed to producing younger, fitter and more dynamic squads for the coming season. Already progress is tangible. Every training session commences with a timed run. Times in the last two weeks are already tumbling and Mark, Peter and John will be pushing for more.

Training for the month of August continues with Monday and Thursday evening fitness sessions 7pm-9pm at GWMSC and Saturday skills sessions at the astro at Carrick Leisure Centre from 12.30pm-2.30pm.

All ladies (aged 14+) are welcome to attend training and for just £1 per fitness session and £2 per skills session, it’s a great way to get fit.

Greenisland Ladies always give a warm welcome to new (and returning) players so if you are interested in joining just show up at a training session and make yourself known to one of the coaches.
