Greenisland 2nd XI, sponsored by 3fivetwo Healthcare, took on Omagh in a
Junior 2 league match. After a pep-talk from the coaches, the game began at
a quick pace. The defence were strong in their tackles and the forwards and
midfield worked well together putting pressure on Omagh’s defence right
from the outset. The wings made excellent runs up the pitch sending fast balls
into the circle, but unfortunately the first half ended goalless.
The first goal came from Keri Humphries on the back of an excellently constructed
penalty corner, which heightened the team’s spirits. The second was
scored by Tara Connor, an excellent reverse shot into the corner of the net.
Greenisland's goalkeeper Leah Crookes had a storming match, prohibiting any
balls reaching the back of the net with her speed and agility. Jackie Nelson,
Leigh Carlin, Corrie Johnston and Rachael Davis all played well together,
clearing balls from the circle and making things very difficult for the opposition’s
forward line.
The midfield stuck the pace very well, and ensured their players were marked
closely. They aided the forwards in keeping the ball in the attacking half
of the pitch and when needed were quickly back to help defend. Our centre
midfield, Eileen Reynolds (player of the match along with goalkeeper Leah
Crookes) had a fantastic game and aided in keeping spirits up with her skill,
strong tackles and positive attitude. Overall, everyone played a fantastic
game, and worked very well together to produce a well-earned win.
