Greenisland 2nd XI, sponsored by 3fivetwo Healthcare, played Pegasus 3rd XI at home in what was always going to be a hard fought match.
Greenisland made an attacking start with continuous pressure from the forwards Tara Connor, Dawn Montgomery and Norma Montgomery on the Pegasus defence. Greenisland’s efforts were rewarded with a cleverly worked goal from Dawn Montgomery. Pegasus responded determinately and applied a sustained period of counterattack on the Greenisland defence of Leigh Carlin, Jackie Nelson, Jacqueline Adamson and Corrie Johnston with goalkeeper Leah Crooks making some excellent saves. Pegasus’s pressure paid off and Greenisland were unfortunate to concede a goal.
A more determined Greenisland side began the second half, creating numerous chances, culminating in an accurately placed ball from Jackie Nelson which found Dawn Montgomery in the circle, who slotted the ball into the back of the net. The Greenisland midfield of Genevieve Cathcart, Keri Humphries and Eileen Reynolds worked tirelessly, attacking and linking well with the forwards and were rewarded with Tara Connor taking on the Pegasus keeper and scoring.
In this high scoring match Pegasus were never prepared to lie down but it was Greenisland who forced a short corner in the dying seconds of the game and Jackie Nelson scored the fourth goal for Greenisland.
