Knock Ladies 3rd XI 6
Greenisland Ladies 4th XI 1
Sat 22nd November 2008

On Saturday afternoon a determined young Greenisland squad took to the pitch against a more experienced Knock side looking to break the losing streak that they have been on. The game started brightly with the midfield working hard to get balls out to Carly McCauley and Lynsey Turner on the wings. The defensive unit of Rebekah Field, Megan McMurtry, Michelle Kinnon and Jessica Gilbert marked their players tightly, tackled strongly and left goalkeeper and player of the match Cheryl Galloway with very little to do.

Towards the end of the first half, an attack released a Knock winger who sent the ball into the circle, and a scrap at the goal mouth saw a highly disputed goal cross the line. Not to be disheartened, the Greenisland squad quickly replied with their own goal, from the top of the circle by Carly McCauley. Not wanting to sit back, Knock again went on the attack and a well struck ball at the top of the circle left the Greenisland defence stranded. Half time saw Greenisland 2-1 down.

After a half time talk from coach Jude Sweeney, the Greenisland girls took to the pitch determined to get something from the game. Knock came out all guns blazing and managed to get another four goals in the second half, leaving the final score 6-1 to the home side. This scoreline does not reflect the work that was put in by each and every player on the Greenisland team. They kept their cool when the match got very heated, tackled well and were very unlucky not to have come away with more goals or points. Thanks to Ian Ritchie for umpiring.
