

Greenisland 1st XI took on Civil Service 1st XI on Saturday 10th of October in a league match. This was a full on intense encounter with neither side giving any quarter. The match started at a furious pace with Civil Service having the early pressure. Greenisland then broke forward and from a quickly taken free hit Jenny Henry drove the ball into the circle. Carly Ann Bennett spun and shot and has the ball headed goal ward Dawn Montgomery jabbed the ball into the net. From the restart Greenisland immediately seized possession and won a penalty corner. Jenny Henry then slotted the ball into the net despite a deflection from Civil Service.
This stirred Civil Service into action and from a penalty corner they got one goal back. The game then had barely time to settle when a ball was intercepted by Civil Service and with quick movement and skill they got the ball into the circle and coolly scored. The game now entered a frantic end to end stage for the final 10 minutes of the half.
The second half started with Greenisland in charge but with no goals scored. Civil Service then took control for a period of the game but again no goals. As the game entered the final 15 minutes Greenisland pressed and with a ball down the right from Cheryl McCracken, Carly Ann Bennett passed a superb ball across goal for Nikki Cairns to score. Then Civil Service upped the tempo again and pressed for an equaliser. With 5 minutes to go the ball was scrambled into the Greenisland net.
The final few minutes were again frantic and end to end as each side pressed for the winner. The game finished 3-3 with both teams having given their all.
