Greenisland Ladies 1st XI took to the field on Saturday knowing that a win would keep them on course for their promotion bid. It didn't take long for the first goal to come - a sweeping move down the right side was finished off at the far post by Jenny Winning to put Greenisland 1-0 up inside the opening two minutes. By five minutes it was 2-1. Firstly Banbridge grabbed an equaliser however this was short lived as Nikki Cairns made no mistake when presented with a shooting opportunity at the other end and immediately restored Greenisland's lead. Later in the first half Erin McMaw increased that lead, leaving the half time score line 3-1 to Greenisland.
After a slow start to the second half by both teams, Greenisland lifted the pace and added three more goals to their tally in the final fifteen minutes. Firstly a low ball into the circle from the right side was tucked away neatly by captain Jenny Henry, before she then turned provider, passing the ball into the circle for Cheryl McCracken to hammer against the backboard. The rout was completed with a close finish from Nikki Cairns right in front of the goalkeeper to leave the final score 6-1.
This result sets up the 1st XI for their final game against Civil Service on Wednesday. Thanks to Alyson Douglas for umpiring.
