Greenisland Ladies 1st XI returned to league action this week to play PSNI
1st XI. Greenisland started to attack from the beginning of the match and
this continued for 15 minutes before the PSNI broke out and eventually entered
the Greenisland circle to get a shot on goal. This turned out to be their
only shot on goal in the whole match. Throughout the first half Greenisland
continued to press and had multiple shots saved by the PSNI keeper. At half
time it was nil each.
The second half was more of the same with Greenisland bombarding the PSNI circle and the goal. Greenisland rotated their players and various strategies but could not draw out the PSNI who had set themselves up purely to defend. Greenisland kept pressing and hit the post and saw several shots flash just wide or saved yet again by the keeper. This was a resolute defensive effort by the PSNI and they held out to the end of the match. The game ended in a nil each draw.
The Greenisland effort was tremendous by all players with Cheryl McCracken player of the match. Thanks to Karen Elwood for umpiring and to the whole team for a determined attacking effort.
