Greenisland 2nd XI played host to Victorians 2nd XI in for their fourth league match of the season. After a somewhat shaky start by both teams Greenisland quickly moved to make their mark on the match with an early goal from Lindsay Anderson. However Victorians soon mounted an attack driving through the midfield. The Greenisland defence made up of L. Carlin, L. Archibald, C. Johnston, C. Mayne and player of the match Karla Hunter, all worked tirelessly. Greenisland soon found their shape again with great linking play between the midfield and forward lines. The first half ended 1-0 to Greenisland.
At the beginning of the second half both teams came out fighting, Greenisland determined to maintain their lead and Victorians keen to make their mark on the scoreboard. With some brilliant runs down the wing from Kathryn Smiley, Greenisland were able to penetrate the circle but were unlucky not to score despite their best efforts. The midfield of E. Reynolds, G. Cathcart and A. MacCorquodale all worked hard throughout, linking between the defence and forwards. In the dying moments of the game Victorians made one final push into the Greenisland defensive circle winning a penalty corner as the final whistle blew. With the final strike of the game Victorians successfully scored, snatching victory from Greenisland. The game finished 1-1.
Many thanks to Emma Douglas for umpiring, to coach Karen Elwood, the management team of Peter Browne and Jackie Nelson, and our supporters whose continued encouragement is greatly appreciated.
