Greenisland Ladies Hockey Club 2nd XI squad took to the pitch on Saturday in their first fixture of the season. Newly promoted, the Club’s 2nd XI was expecting a tough match against Ballymena LHC 2nd XI but this proved not to be the case.
The home team started the strongest with a dominant midfield of Audrey MacCorquodale, Eileen Reynolds and Genevieve Cathcart linking well with forwards Norma Montgomery, Tara Connor and Lindsay Anderson. Enjoying most of the game’s possession Greenisland converted the first of many goals through Tara Connor and at half-time the Greenisland girls were four goals to nil.
Coach Karen Elwood’s half-time team talk was very positive and she told the team that she wanted as good a performance in the second half as in the first. Greenisland started the second half with defence, midfield and forwards all playing very well. This resulted in another four goals – one each from Norma Montgomery, Carla Brown, Eileen Reynolds and Tara Connor. Final score 8-0 to Greenisland.
Many thanks to Alyson Douglas for umpiring.
