An under-strength 5th team travelled to Antrim Forum to play Randalstown
5th XI on Saturday. With only 10 players and no goal-keeper, the Greenisland
team showed determination to nevertheless fulfil the game rather than scratch
the fixture.
Rhonda Ross bravely stepped into the keeper kit and was immediately put under
pressure by the Randalstown attack. The defence worked well with some superb
clearances from Laura Cole finding Greenisland’s forwards. At half-time
the score was 3-0 to Randalstown.
The opposition had a full-strength team as well as reserve players, and in
the second half, tired legs in Greenisland’s midfield found the pace
of the game overwhelming. Player of the Match, Rhonda Ross, saved many a shot
on goal and but for her efforts the 10-0 scoreline could have been much worse
for Greenisland.
