Greenisland Ladies 4th XI 0
Newcastle Ladies 2nd XI 4
Sat 25th September 2010
Greenisland's 4th XI hosted Newcastle Nomads on Saturday 25 September 2010
and within minutes, the Greenisland defence knew they would be busy girls.
Keeping the ball away from the Newcastle No 18 proved to be the order of the
day and Emma Douglas set about that task. Marshalling the midfield, Captain
Alison Haire kept the team's spirits up.
Restarting the second half, 2-0 down, Greenisland did try to take the offensive
to Newcastle, but their keeper pulled out some brilliant saves. With tiring
midfield legs, the home team were unable to keep up with the relentless attacks
from Newcastle. Although the final score of 4-0 to Newcastle did not reflect
possession of the ball, the Greenisland girls need a bit of practice scoring
goals. This was a hard match to start the season, but the defence of Alice
Kennedy, Michelle Currie, Laura Johnston, Rachel Spencely and Barbra Webber
(Player of the match) deserve mention for their efforts.
Many thanks to Ruth Creaney and Lauren Scott for umpiring
