Greenisland 1st XI, sponsored by Glenmore Consultants, welcomed Omagh on Saturday 4th February and were determined to get back to winning ways following their unfortunate luck over the past few weeks.
Greenisland dominated the first half with some beautiful fluid passing movements especially between Cheryl McCracken, Erica McMullan and Lindsay Moore. Lindsay made some beautiful runs along the baseline pulling the ball back into the middle of the circle however Greenisland were unable to capitalise despite having several shots at the Omagh keeper.
A few penalty corners followed which Greenisland were again unlucky not to convert. Dawn Montgomery made some lovely runs up the left wing and was well supported by Carly Anne Bennett and Gillian Kane from midfield. Greenisland were coping well with Omagh's attacks and their pressure finally paid off when a well struck penalty corner from Jenny Henry was saved by the keeper before being roofed into the net by Lindsay Moore.
After their dominant period Greenisland had to defend before half time but did well with keeper Emma Getty, Rachel Johnston, Louise Archibald and Jenny Henry (pictured) preventing any attacks from the quick Omagh team. At half time however the score was 1-0 with Greenisland positive of getting a result.
The 2nd half was a more even contest with Omagh posing more of a threat and Greenisland's defence doing well to prevent their attacks. However Greenisland were unable to convert several chances including a great run from Lindsay Moore being saved by the keeper and this lack of finish meant Omagh were still in the game. With just 15mins to go Omagh equalised and despite Greenisland's efforts the game ended in a draw. However Greenisland took positives from this being a much deserved point in 2012.
