Greenisland 1st XI travelled to Victorians to play their third fixture in this season's ONE 1918 Ulster Shield. Having faced two Premier League teams so far in this competition, Greenisland were looking forward to facing Victorians, a fellow Senior 1 team whom they will play in the league later this year.
Victorians started the first half as the better team, forcing Greenisland to defend early on and they took the lead through some poor marking on Greenisland's part. However they soon weathered Victorians' attacks and came into the game, getting their passing together in midfield. Greenisland stormed back into the game when a pass from Gillian Kane found Lindsay Moore in the middle of the circle who fired home a fierce shot to level the match at 1-1 . The game then became end to end stuff before a pass from Jenny Henry set Lindsay Moore off on a fantastic solo run beating 3 defenders and firing home a ferocious shot to put Greenisland 2-1 up.
Victorians then came back on the attack and shortly before half time levelled the score at 2-2 with a scrappy goal. At the break Greenisland were confident they could go forth and win the game and continue to frustrate Victorians.
Greenisland started the second half on the back foot and were unable to step up and play to the same standard that they had shown in the first half. Victorians took advantage of Greenisland's mistakes and quickly found themselves 6-2 up after two unfortunate own goals. Victorians were then awarded a penalty flick however Greenisland keeper Emma Getty produced a stunning diving save to prevent the goal. Greenisland took encouragement from this and started to close down Victorians pressurising them and creating more and more chances. A great run and shot from Ashleigh Bell allowed Lindsay Moore to gain her hat trick as she deflected the ball into the net.
Despite their efforts Greenisland were unable to convert anymore but they should take great encouragement from their performance and look forward to playing Victorians in the League.
