Greenisland Ladies 3rd XI 6
Parkview Ladies 2nd XI 0
Sat 7th January 2012

Greenisland 3rd XI resumed their Junior 5 league campaign on Saturday 7th January 2012 against local team Parkview 2nd XI. Having already won all previous 9 league games this year with 25 goals for and only 1 against they intended to set their mark on the 2nd half of the season. The match was played away at Foundry Lane. The 3rd XI had several regular players missing but it was still a very strong team who took to the field.

The game started with Greenisland going on the attack and this was to be the pattern of the match. Within 5 minutes an accurate pass from Norma Montgomery saw a free Emma Douglas on the left wing who calmly slotted it home. Emma was to score her 2nd within minutes as she struck the ball from a tight angle into the net. Goal number 3 involved Norma again making a great pass to Audrey Macorquodale (joint player of match) (pictured), who in turn took it around a couple of Parkview defenders and into the net.

The second half again saw greenisland press forward and great tackiling skills from Fiona Millar and a young Chloe Carlin who was making her debut for the team made sure they prevented any of the Parkview attackers from penetrating our defence. It was a redundant back four this week for Greenisland who's only job on the day was to collect the ball from the side line or back line.

Some superb runs from right wing Jeanna Robb (joint player of match) allowed her to carry the ball to the back line and send great passes to the waiting forwards in the circle. It was one of these that resulted in a short corner. Jude Sweeney made no mistake in hammering it home. It wasn't long before the ball was back in Parkview's danger zone and it was Audrey who claimed her second of the game and Greenisland's 5th. The team were not finished and after another penalty corner which was saved, but on form Jude Sweeney was on the rebound and made no mistake in making sure she secured her second of the game. The final whistle blew and the score line definitely reflected greenislands playing ability on the day 6:0. Thank you to Emma Getty who played goals and to Emma Douglas who set her umpiring skills aside to display her hockey skills for the team and earned 2 goals to her credit.

Many thanks to Peter Browne for his coaching and warm ups and also to Karen Elwood for umpiring.
