Greenisland 3s played host to local girls Parkview 2s on Saturday 1st October at Carrick Amphitheatre. It was not the most ideal weather conditions as both teams took to the pitch in the teeming rain. This did not deter the home side as they opened the scoring in the first 2minutes with a well drilled penalty corner from Norma Montgomery. It was only a matter of minutes again when Lauren Kirker found Claire Courtney who made no mistake in slotting the ball into the backboards.
A strong midfield of Jenny Dillon, Jeanna Robb and Lauren Montgomery prevented
the Parkview girls from breaking away or even managing to get the ball over
the half way line. Great skill from Claire Courtney saw her drive up the pitch
weaving in and out of players and release the ball off to Norma Montgomery
who found the net for her second time at a very tight angle. This was still
not enough for the Greenisland girls as they pushed forward again and Norma
Montgomery once again found the net giving her her first hat trick of the
season.
The second half saw Parkview step up their game and gave our defence some
hassle. Jude Sweeney very calmly made sure the back four were solid and thwarted
all their attacks. Also level headed Leigh Carlin remained consistent throughout
the match making perfect passes to the midfield and forwards. Audrey Macorquodale
made some superb runs up and down the pitch laying off great passes to link
the play with forwards and midfields. Heather Sharpe was able to spread the
play across the pitch and made some superb tackles and nearing the end of
the match her pass into the circle allowed Lauren Kirker (pictured) to find
the net and complete the scoreline to 5:0.
Well done to the 3s. 9 points from 9 and 10 goals for and none conceded. A special mention must go to Karen Whitehead who donned the keeper kit and got a sore back from standing too long. Many thanks to Karen Elwood for umpiring.
