Greenisland Ladies 4th XI 3
Knock Ladies 3rd XI 0
Fri 6th January 2012
Greenisland Ladies 4th XI got the New Year off to a great start on Friday
6th January in an evening fixture against Knock Ladies 3rd XI. Despite the
weather, the Greenisland team were in good form and opened the scoring minutes
into the game with Danielle Neill slotting a ball past the Knock keeper. The
home team dominated play and were rewarded with a second goal (Norma Montgomery)
before half time.
At the turnaround, Knock applied a little pressure to the home defence. This
was dealt with efficiently and the Greenisland defence were resolute. Mention
must go to Player of the Match, Megan McMurtry (pictured) who made many excellent
tackles and clearances.
A final wonder goal came from nowhere. Emma Douglas took a free pass and sent
the ball into the circle ball, the ball then deflected off Norma Montgomery's
stick and sailed past the Knock keeper. Much hilarity took place as Montgomery
tried to explain that she meant to deflect the ball goalbound ... the jury
is still out! Final score 3-0 to Greenisland Ladies.
Many thanks to David King for umpiring.
